The Portonic
Portugal's Answer to the G&T
If Portugal has a signature summer cocktail, this is it. Equal parts crisp and refreshing, the Portonic combines dry white port with tonic water for a drink that's lighter than a G&T but every bit as satisfying. Served over ice with a generous slice of citrus, it's an aperitif that's been enjoyed in Portugal for generations—and one we're happy to borrow for summer entertaining.
Ingredients
2 oz dry white Port
4 oz. chilled tonic water
Ice
A slice of organge, lemon or grapefruit
Fresh rosemary or mint
Instructions
Step 1:
Fill a wine glass or large tumbler generously with ice.
Step 2:
Add the dry white port and top with chilled tonic water.
Step 3:
Garnish with a slice of citrus and a sprig of rosemary or mint, if desired. Stir gently and serve immediately.
