British Standard Mug, Brilliant Green
David Mellor has reimagined one of the world's first colour systems, British Standard colours. With their wonderfully evocative period colour names, Mellosr designed a contemporary collection of fine bone china mugs and espresso cups. Founded in 1931, the British Colour Council standardized colours for design and industry throughout the United Kingdom. Still in use today, each British Standard colour has its own colour name and number.
While modern trends and new colour systems such as Pantone (created in 1963) are widely used, British Standard Colours remain relevant in certain sectors where consistency and compliance with standards are important.
