Watermelon Martini

HG Wine & Bar

Watermelon Martini

Recipe by Hopson Grace

Looking for a new summer drink? Try a Watermelon Martini. It's light, it's bright, and when served ice cold, tastes like summer. A squeeze of lime cuts the sweetness of the watermelon, and a splash of Cointreau brings nuance to its flavour. Serve it in our new Luce martini glass, with its wide fluted bowl and thin stem.

Makes 2 drinks

Ingredients

  • 2 oz of premium vodka, such as Tito's

  • 1 cup chopped watermelon

  • 3-4 fresh mint leaves

  • 1-ounce lime juice

  • ½ oz Cointreau

  • 1 oz simple syrup

Instructions

  • Make your simple syrup. Bring equal parts sugar and water to a boil in a saucepan, then cool (store in the refrigerator when not in use).

  • In your martini shaker, gently muddle watermelon cubes and mint to release the juices.

  • Add vodka, Cointreau, lime juice, simple syrup, and lots of ice. Seal the shaker tightly and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. The sign of a well-shaken martini is when you see ice crystals floating across the top.

  • Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a watermelon wedge or mint leaf.
