Meet the Designer: Megan Crosbie

Megan Crosbie

Meet the Designer

Toronto-based Megan Crosbie Design creates homes that feel as good to live in as they look. Known for thoughtful, enduring interiors shaped around real life, the studio often joins projects early, helping bring clarity and cohesion to large-scale renovations from the outset. Drawing inspiration from art, architecture, travel, and food, Megan and her team balance beauty with function, guiding clients through the many decisions of a renovation with a calm, collaborative approach from first plans to final details.

HG: How would you define your style?

MC: I’d describe my style as calm, intentional, and highly livable. I’m always looking for that balance between function and beauty -- spaces that feel timeless, layered, and thoughtful without trying too hard. I don’t design around trends. Instead, I spend a lot of time understanding how my clients live day to day, then interpret that through my own lens to create a home that feels personal and quietly elevated.

HG: When did you first become interested in design / how or why did you choose your profession?

MC: Honestly, it’s always been there. While most kids were watching cartoons after school, I was watching home makeover shows and constantly rearranging my bedroom. I’ve always been creative and drawn to art, I studied fine art, and during university I interned at a large interior design firm in Toronto. That experience made it very clear that this was what I wanted to do. It combined creativity with problem-solving in a way that felt really natural to me.

HG: Who and/or what inspires you?

MC: Travel has always been my biggest source of inspiration. Seeing how people live in different places -- how design shows up in architecture, materials, and everyday routines -- keeps me endlessly curious. I’m also inspired by designers and creatives who value restraint, craftsmanship, and homes that are designed for real life, not just for photos.

HGWhere’s your happy place?

MC: While I love to travel, I’m very much a homebody at heart. Cooking, spending time with friends and family, and being at home with my dog is where I feel most grounded. If I’m in a beautiful, comfortable space with people I love, whether that’s at home or away, I’m happy.

HG: What’s your favourite part of the design process?

MC: I love the beginning -- getting to know how my clients live, what they need from their home, and where things aren’t quite working. For many of our clients, life is busy and time is limited, so a big part of our role is anticipating needs and solving problems they don’t want to have to think about. Pulling together inspiration, refining layouts, and creating clarity early on sets the tone for the entire project. And of course, seeing everything come together at the end never gets old.

HG: Styling tip?

MC: Have a point of view -- and make it personal. Whether you’re styling a coffee table, a shelf, or a dinner table, start with a clear feeling or palette and commit to it. The best spaces aren’t over-styled; they reflect the people who live there. Mix in pieces that have meaning to you, and don’t be afraid to leave a little breathing room.

HG: Favourite room in the house?

MC: The kitchen, without question. As someone who cooks every day, I love designing kitchens that are both beautiful and highly functional. When done well, they become the heart of the home -- supporting everything from quiet mornings to big gatherings.

HG: Best entertaining tip or favourite ritual when you entertain?

MC: Preparation is everything. I like to have things ready before guests arrive so I can actually enjoy hosting. Drink in hand, snacks out, and no scrambling once people walk through the door. It makes the whole evening feel more relaxed and enjoyable for everyone.

HG: What are you coveting right now (from Hopson Grace)?

MC: I’m always drawn to pieces that elevate everyday moments without feeling precious. And have included more than a handful in my annual holiday guide. Right now, that’s beautiful glassware like the Luce Martini and Cocktail Glasses, simple serving pieces like the Mud Australia Platters, and textiles like the French Country Linen Tea Towel, that feel as good to use as they look. I love items like the Sabre Cutlery, and the Mignonette Silver Plated Salt & Pepper Grinders, that quietly enhance daily rituals like setting the table, making a drink, hosting friends—those are the pieces that really earn their place in a home. And if you want a stand out – the Ginori Oriente Italiano Cake Plates are forever on my wish list.
