How to Use Maple Syrup Morning, Noon, and Night
Northern Nectar
If you're going to indulge in something sweet this month, make it maple syrup. Filled with potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, and calcium in concentrations 15 times higher than honey, it's a natural alternative to processed sugar. Early settlers in Canada and the U.S. Northeast learned about sugar maples from Native Americans. The Ojibwa called the "sugaring off" period in March "maple moon" or "sugar month." If you have no plans to visit an authentic sugar shack, these recipes will fill the void. Morning, noon or night, this is one sugar you can feel good about.
Start with the best syrup you can find.
Our Grade A Amber maple syrup is produced from red and sugar maple trees in Ontario's French River region. Made over wood burning fires, it's considered the best in the world, having twice been awarded the Gold Medal at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.
Morning
Granola
Making your own granola is not only easier than you think, it's well worth the effort. This recipe omits all dried fruit in favour of a toasted and beautifully nutty flavour. It's a keeper.
Buttermilk Pancakes
Buttermilk is the secret ingredient in a great pancake because it creates the right amount of chemical reaction in your batter to produce fluffy results. It also adds richness and a slight tang.
Cereal Bowl $35 | Fruit Bowl $32
Choose À Table's cereal or fruit bowl for your granola. We recommend pairing the granola with coconut yogurt, banana and fresh lime juice.
Noon
Maple-Mustard Vinaigrette
Just as a squeeze of lemon can add a needed punch of flavour to a sauce, a touch of sweet will make your salad dressing pop.
Costa Nova Soup/ Pasta Plate $25
Costa Nova's Pearl coupe bowl isn't just great for pasta and soup, it's ideal for salads. Made in Portugal.
Night
Maple Sour
Sweet and sour collide in this tangy cocktail that features rum, grapefruit juice, maplesyrup and aromatic bitters.
Maple Soy Glazed Trout
Use a heavy or cast-iron skillet to make this trout recipe that takes a mere 20 minutes. A perfect balance of sweet and salty with a dash of ginger and garlic, it's an ideal weeknight meal.
