5 Flower Arranging Tips Everyone Should Know

Bloomin' Fantastic

We asked Todd Caldwell and the team at Toronto's Emblem Flowers for their best flower arranging tips. Creating a stunning bouquet is an art form, and with a few tricks up your sleeve, you can create your own floral masterpieces at home. How's that for a little flower power?

1. Buy twice as many flowers as you think you'll need

"To get the kind of look you want when flowers have been arranged for you, know that there are way more flowers in them than you think there are."

- Todd, whose favourite Spring flowers are Hellebores and Tulips

2. If you're using a clear vase, clean the stems first

"Not only will it look better, extra leaves on the stems will encourage bacterial growth, meaning your flowers won't last as long."

- Nelson, whose perfect Spring flower is the Sweet Pea

3. Change your water EVERY day

"We can't emphasize this enough! And keep them away from sunny windows which will accelerate their lifespan."

- Sam, whose Spring flower is the Ronuncula

4. Move on from white flowers

"If you want to be modern and on-trend where florals are concerned, you'll need to embrace colour. Don't be afraid to trust your own taste."

- Alex, whose favourite Spring flowers are Poppies and Anemones

5. Don't get busy

"Use no more than three colours, and five flowers, otherwise your arrangement will look far too busy."

- Angie, whose loves French Tulips in the Spring
