These limited-edition table mats are inspired by the artistic legacy of Cape Dorset. Located at the southern tip of Baffin Island, Cape Dorset is recognized internationally as the centre of Inuit graphic arts. The community’s prolific sculptors and drawing artists’ work is found in galleries around the world, including The National Gallery of Canada. A percentage of proceeds from the sale of this limited-edition collection will be donated to the artist(s).

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Saimaiyu Akesuk was born in 1988 in Iqaluit but has lived in Cape Dorset her whole life. Her parents are Lau Akesuk and Olayuk Akesuk who was one of the first Members of the Legislative Assembly in Nunavut. Saimaiyu’s confident drawings of birds and bears are characterized by her bold and dynamic simplicity rendered with soft tenderness and a touch of whimsy.
