    Ceccaldi

    Chef's Knife, Horn

    $295.00

Jean-Pierre Ceccaldi began making the traditional Corsican knife, the 'curnicciulu', and over the years expanded his production to offer a comprehensive range of knives from traditional knives, like the « vendetta », to table knives, special pieces, kitchen knives, and pocket knives. These products are designed following the same traditional high standards : quality, authenticity and creativity.

This kitchen knife is made from ram's horn and carbon steel. Carbon steel is razor-sharp and holds its edge for a very long time.

Care: Carbon steel will oxidise, and will acquire a grey patina over time. It is very easy to sharpen, which is a big plus for a knife that will be used daily. The tone used by Coutellerie Ceccaldi is, unless otherwise specified, XC75 (0.75% of carbon). The proper maintenance of carbon steel is critical, more so than that of stainless steel. It is therefore intended for informed users. The blade should be cleaned under running water after each use, and dried immediately, and stored in a dry place. If used less frequently, it may be appropriate to oil the blade before storing it in a dry place.

Jean-Pierre Ceccaldi began making the traditional Corsican knife, the « curnicciulu » and over the years expanded his production to offer a comprehensive range of knives including table, kitchen and pocket knives. Coutellerie Ceccaldi is now officially recognized as an « Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) »  or “Living Heritage Company” by the government of France, a designation set up to distinguish French companies with remarkable tradition and industrial excellence.

This kitchen knife is made from ram's horn and carbon steel.  Carbon steel is razor-sharp and holds its edge for a very long time. The trade off is oxidation, meaning they could rust. Looked after properly, however, they will develop a patina long before any rust can take root. Once the patina has developed the surface will no longer be susceptible to further corrosion. Should rusting occur simply use a kitchen scrubby (not copper or steel wool as this will scratch the surface) and warm, soapy water to remove anything that looks like rust.  Some discolouration is normal and will develop over time.

Ginori porcelain has graced the museums and tables of many European fine homes and luxury hotels, including the Vatican. Known for quality, craftsmanship and Italian design, Richard Ginori was acquired in 2013 by the Gucci fashion house.

Sleek and rational: a logical path of lines evokes the image of a maze and creates a graphic frame that distinguishes the Labirinto Collection. The perfect convergence between ancient culture and the modern design of which Gio Ponti was one of the leading representatives, the collection was inspired by the pattern created by the master in 1926. The Impero shape, with its cylindrical outlines, evokes similar models from the late eighteenth century, imprinted by the lines of Neoclassical elegance, and it enhances the style and simplicity of the Labirinto Collection.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Jamasie Teevee began to draw in the early 1960s while living in an Inuit Camp on the coastline of southern Baffin Island. During that time, he concentrated primarily on the copper engraving technique, ferrying copper plates back and forth between his campsite and the co-operative in Cape Dorset. Many of his engravings, published in the 1960s and early 1970s, and later his paper drawings, depicted the traditional Inuit camp and hunting activities.

    Stag Antler Candelabra

    $285.00

Established in 1749, Abbeyhorn has been making high-quality horn products in Lancashire, located in the north of England, where everything is made by a team of just nine people.  Horn is sourced ethically from renewable resources, including deer antlers from Scotland and ram's horn from Cumbria.

Abbeyhorn uses Antler from Scottish Red Deer, which is one of the largest of the deer species in the UK.  The stag's antlers begin growing in the spring and shed at the end of winter, as part of it's natural life cycle. These temporary, often branched structures, have a rough, textured surface and range from dark to light brown in colour, a result of diet and climate.  Note: no two pieces will ever be the same.

    Ceccaldi

    Terra Steak Knife, Ebony

    $205.00

Jean-Pierre Ceccaldi began making the traditional Corsican knife, the 'curnicciulu', and over the years expanded his production to offer a comprehensive range of knives from traditional knives, like the « vendetta », to table knives, special pieces, kitchen knives, and pocket knives. These products are designed following the same traditional high standards : quality, authenticity and creativity

The Terra is a simple and elegant table knife, which will grace all tables, from the most modern to the most classical. Assembled with a glue used in aeronautics for wood models, its blade is made of stainless steel.

Care: Stainless steel will not oxidise, and is easier to maintain than carbon steel. Stainless steel knives are harder to sharpen. It is therefore necessary to sharpen them more regularly, and not wait until the knife is no longer sharp enough to cut. Regular sharpening is the best way to ensure your knife remains sharp throughout its lifespan. Hand wash and dry immediately. All the wood used by Ceccaldi is dry and healthy. However, as a living material, wood may expand and acquire a patina over time. To minimise this phenomenon, it is critical to avoid immersing the handle in water. You will also need to lubricate the handle once to twice a year with olive oil or sweet almond oil

    Laguiole en Aubrac

    Wine & Cheese Set, Horn

    $665.00

In 1828 a local blacksmith in the French village of Laguiole (pronounced Lay-ol) hammered out the town’s first folding knife. A few decades later, as knife-making developed into a local industry, designer Pierre Jean Calmels refined the rustic pattern, giving the handle its signature sinuous shape and finishing each piece with ornamental flourishes such as bumblebees and shepherds’ crosses. After two world wars depleted manpower and wiped out production, the workshop reopened as Forge de Laguiole in 1987 under the direction of designer Philippe Starck.

Each knife is still made by skilled craftsmen from start to finish, each one taking several hours or even days to manufacture. Nicolas Sarkosy’s office often commissioned these knives to be given to visiting heads of state.

In your quest for all things Laguiole, beware of cheap imitations. The name Laguiole was never patented, so unlike legally protected denominations or origin such as Champagne, mass and machine-manufactured copycats can be found that mimic the original design.

Care: Hand washing recommended - dry immediately.
